A function to mark Rudaki, aka the father of Persian verse, is set to be held with the aid of some Iranian cultural institutes in the country.

A ceremony to mark Iran noted poet Rudaki, known as the father of Persian verse, is set to be mounted in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

‘A Night of Rudaki’ will be organized by Bukhara Magazine in collaboration with Dr. Afshar's Endowment Foundation, Eco Cultural Institute, the Center for Great Islamic Encyclopedia and Iraj Afshar Research Trove.

Abu Abdollah Jafar ibn Mohammad Rudaki, also written as Rudagi, was the first poet of significance who wrote poems in the “New Persian,” alphabet.

During the ceremony some distinguished figures in Persian literature and poetry will give keynote speeches.

Around 100,000 couplets are said to be written by Rudaki. However, only 1,000 have continued to exist.

The poet’s masterpieces belong to over a thousand years back, though his poetry still seems fresh and one can relate to his works even in 2016.

Being the first great literary genius of the Modern Persian, the great Persian poet died in 940/941.

‘A night of Rudaki’ will be held on Tuesday, December 27.
